When past and present merge
The camp des Milles near Aix-en-Provence is the only French detention and deportation site still standing. After it had been left derelict for decades, it was refurbished into a place of memory and education, which was inaugurated on June 10th, 2012. Further to its historical calling, this memorial provides keys for a cross-disciplinary insight into several genocides to understand the underlying mechanics of extremism, racism and antisemitism, and what can help to oppose them.
