French Salon des arts ménagers

As early as 1923, this event was organized at the Champ-de-Mars under the name of "Salon des appareils ménagers", on the initiative of Jules-Louis Breton, the first director of the National Board of Scientific and Industrial Research and Inventions (Office national des recherches scientifiques et industrielles et des inventions, ONRSII).

The show was a success from the first year. Then, in 1926, it moved to the Grand Palais and took the name "Salon des arts ménagers". During this event organized with the aim of encouraging the collaboration between the scientific and industrial circles, many inventions resulting from the ONRSII then the CNRS are exposed and rewarded. The exhibition was organized every year until 1960 at the Grand Palais, then from 1961 onwards in the premises of the Centre national des industries et des techniques (Cnit) at La Défense, where the last one took place in 1983. The Breton family ran the show for over fifty years.

Our work is guided by the way scientists question the world around them and we translate their research into images to help people to understand the world better and to awaken their curiosity and wonderment.
