Pierre Louisot follows the history of medications through the centuries, in three programs:1 - Description of the beginnings of pharmacology, using vegetable-, animal-, and mineral-based products, through the rise of the French pharmaceutical industry in the 18th and 19th centuries, which sought to identify the active ingredients of traditional medications. (14 minutes)2 - Overview of the discovery of active chemical components by the pharmaceutical industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, through the examination of several examples including anesthetics, sulfa drugs, antibiotics, and aspirin. (14 minutes)3 - Summary of the sequence of stages necessary before a specific medication may be sold to the public. (12 minutes)
