This beautifully designed portolan atlas made in Venice is generally ascribed to Battista Agnese and dated to the 1540s. It charts the entire world then explored by Europeans with Europe, Asia, Africa, and much of the Americas, as well as the routes of the great Portuguese and Spanish explorers. Battista Agnese's atlas is a celebration of the European explorations of the world as viewed from Venice.
