Biodiversity must be restored and connectivities recreated, when one wants a city to cease to be a barrier for species reproduction. There is a drive to create green corridors cropping up in large cities. The smaller Parisian inner belt is precisely providing the opportunity to develop one of these corridors as a reservoir for biodiversity.
Nathalie Blanc, as an environmental geographer at the Ladysslaboratory, investigates real-life developments of natural areas in the city in contrast to utopian green cities. In particular, she monitors what is happening in the corridor of the smaller belt, an area with many activities, still partly in use for transport, and devoted to nature or to communal use such as gardens. She investigates the environmental role played by these undeveloped areas amid the city.
