Researchers from CNRS and the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Lyon summarize the state of knowledge about the Earth's interior and the phenomena related to its internal activity: plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes.
Seismology is the study of the various components that make up the Earth. Field work is supplemented by laboratory research.
Finally, in Lebanon, by examining the fault lines in the river valley of Yammouneh, a team of researchers hopes to determine the frequency of the most devastating earthquakes in the Middle East.
