Lampedusa, a rocky island of 20 square kilometres, is one of the borderlands of Europe. It is an Italian island known for being the destination of thousands of migrants fleeing wars and misery who put their lives at risk by crossing the Mediterranean seaS. Being a frontier for some and a heavenly sea resort for others, its turquoise blue waters, its idyllic sceneries and its indolence have made it a touristic destination of choice. Between these seemingly tightly sealed worlds, which hardly communicate, life on the island must go on. In this film, denizens and visitors confide, exposing and hiding themselves on stage. Depending on the situation, implicitly or offhandedly, they provide watchers with an insight into Lampedusa, both an ambivalent and contrasted island with its wreck-sites and retention centres, its dolce vita and traditional fishery. A voyage to the heart of a gorgeous and militarised island, show both the stage and witness of one of our century’s tragedies.
